Mrs. Daisy Mae
Hatfield |
Thanksgiving Day Recipe Contest
Dateline-November 28, 2002
As Thanksgiving Day fast approaches, hillbilly fans everywhere are
preparing for the holidays.
As part of this newspapers commitment to providing useful community
information, we decided to poll housewives throughout the country
and asked this question:
WHAT IS YOUR
FAVORITE FAMILY HOLIDAY RECIPE FOR THANKSGIVING? |
|
The
winner is Mrs. Daisy Mae Hatfield of Dead Man's Gulch, Arizona
[pictured above] who sent us her family's recipe for Texas Possum
Chili Stuffing. She tells us this recipe was passed down from
her granny in Arkansas in the 80's [1880's, that is] and she added
the armadillo meat and jalapenos later, to please her Texas and
Arizona kin.
Texas Possum Chili Stuffing.
Ingredients:
1 large possum or 2 small (good and dead-really dead)
3 onions chopped
1 pound sausage
15 jalapenos
5 tomatoes
2 red peppers chopped
3 squirrels, cut into pieces
1 armadillo
1 cup tea
1/4 can Copenhagen
2
cups dry bread, cubed
Chop up everything (be sure to skin the 'dillo) set it on the fire
(or stove, if ya wanna be fancy) let it boil until the dogs howl.
Use it to stuff either another possum or a turkey you done shot.
Be sure to remove the buck shot from the turkey carcass. Eat with
regard to the bones and serve with cheese (not green) and more
onions. This is actually a recipe my granny taught me how to cook.
It is actually real edible.

Everyone wants to have a safe Thanksgiving Day!
Remember these two tips: |
|
Holidays are a dangerous time
to be on the road.
When traveling this holiday,
please be a cautious driver,
leave plenty of time for traveling to your
destination and
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!
The life you save may be your own. |

Turkeys should be prepared and served carefully to prevent food
poisoning. For information about Turkey safety tips, go to

Billy sub and Barncat regular, Rick Dunham has a CD available called
San Antonio.
In
this reporter opinion, it is the best country style CD to be heard
in a long time. Copies are available through Rick. Pop on over and
pay him a visit at DCA and tell him the Billy Gazette highly
recommended it.
CD's
are $10.00 each. For more CD info, go to
