First Show
[a.k.a. Rick
Storey]

Rick Storey is a multi-talented singer,
songwriter, banjo and guitar player.
He was born and raised in the Los Angeles area
and at the age of 16, became interested in playing the banjo.
"I didn't want to surf, I wanted to pick,"
says Rick about his teenage years. He won a couple of banjo contests,
including the 1978
Topanga International Banjo Competition, where he took first place.
He played with a few bands, and
after high school ventured over to Europe. |
|
Being a backpacking banjo picking Californian,
trying to make a living playing on the streets of Stockholm and Hamburg
was his 'school of hard knocks'. Teaming up with his brothers he helped
form 'The Dirty Storey Band' and was a big part of the Northern European
folk music scene.
He started writing songs in 1986, "It seems
like there's always a song in my head" says Rick, " It's almost like a
curse!."
His first CD, is titled "Rick Storey". |
|
He started playing guitar shortly thereafter,
and during the 90's, toured Germany for 'Jack Daniel's.' He released a
couple of pop banjo singles with his brothers. "I love mixing different
types of music. It's all about fusion."
Rick lives in Manhattan Beach CA and makes his
living playing gigs, teaching guitar and banjo, and of course writing
songs.
Catch him Pickin' and Grinnin' at Disneyland this summer,
as Billy Banjo in the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Show at the Golden
Horseshoe Stage in Frontierland! Show times are Thursday thru Mondays at
