St. George, Kankakee County, Illinois Maps

It has been reported that the St. George, Illinois area was first settled by M. Granger, a farmer from Quebec, Canada. One of the first Catholic parishes was established there in 1848. I have been unable to identify M. Granger at this point, but one of the first settlers in the Bourbonnais area was David Granger, born in 1808, the son of Jean-Baptiste Granger and Marie-Angelique Gregoire. David came to the Bourbonnais area in 1848, also.

A Current Map of the St. George Village Area

This is a current map of the St. George area.

St. George  was marked by the red star by the map service, but it is actually more to the left just north of Bradley and Bourbonnais, Illinois.

It is along Rural route #1 on St. George Road.

It is surrounded by the communities of Bourbonnais, Bradley, Kankakee and Manteno.

Bourbonnais is the oldest community having been discovered in 1679 by Cavalier de la Salle and founded in about 1832 and named after Francois Bourbonnais, a fur trapper and trader who was deeded land in the area by the Treaty of Tippecanoe in 1833.
